Preview: Metal Show @ PS1

Plague WindThis could be the last show at PS1. Before you get your panties in a wad, it’s not because there’s no ambition, or money, but these three bands might tear the place apart (hyperbole much?). Public Space One’s latest incarnation has only played host to moody, introspective, and most importantly calm musicians. Talk about a change of pace! Tonight a trio of Iowa’s finest metal bands will make the Jefferson Bldg shake and some poor guy making that meatball marinara in Subway think he’s on a fault-line.

Bongrider, featuring Alex from the 12 Cannons, will keep the macabre lyrics, but ditch the banjos, acoustic guitars and plaintive wails for Flying V’s, double bass-drums, and, y’know, snarling and screaming. Coronation, another Iowa City metal collective, joins the bill and features members of The Tanks, Petit Mal, and Law of All Ends. And with a pedigree like that, what other information do you need?

And finally, Plague Wind is blowing in from Sioux City to blow you over. These three dudes and one dudette will bring their west coast (of Iowa)-style black metal that could prove to be the nail in the coffin of the structural stability of the Jefferson Building.

Who: Plague Winds w/ Coronation and Bongrider
Where: Public Space One (basement of Jefferson Bldg, next to the Subway on Washington St.)
When: Tonight (8/4) @ 9pm
Cover: Free (donations for PS1 upkeep and gas money for Plague Winds highly, highly recommended)
