Preview: Ed Gray

I didn’t realize until just the other day that I had this startling lack of Ed Gray in my life.  It feels like years since the troubadore reared his head at an Iowa City venue, but thankfully the dry spell is over.
Tonight Ed Gray hits up the Picador for some good ol’ beer-soaked alt-country.  I know a lot of you have had the pleasure of taking in one of Ed’s shows, but Mr. Gray is also one of those Iowa City mainstays that you’ll “see next time he’s around.”  Well, there’s no time like the present, especially since it’s been such a long damn time since the last time he graced us with his presence.
Joining Senior Gray this evening will be two bands with two of the most disturbing names on any bill: the fluxuating noise outfit Open Goat and former Iowa City-ian Manhorse III The Meatbag.  What to expect when Ed runs afoul of these noisenick, I know not.  But Ed can keep up with those young pups, he’s been known to dive-bomb into some Metal Machine Music-type shit at the end of a weary country ballad.  So, I guess, look out.  That mp3 below is a stand out from Ed’s last album The Late Gray Ed Great.
