Preview + Contest: Denison Witmer
It’s been a minute since we’ve had a straight-up tender show down in Public Space One, but this Friday we’ve got a match made in heaven to get you warmed up as people start to freak out about finals. Philadelphia songwriting phenom Denison Witmer will be making a stop in our favorite venue beneath Subway as he supports his new record, Carry The Weight. New record, eh? To champion this effort, his sixth since he began recording in 1995, we are teaming with his label The Militia Group to hook our readers up with the record. All you’ve got to do is send an email to contest [at] missionfreak [dot] com with the subject line Denison Witmer and you’ll be entered. Three copies will be given away, and the winners will be notified on Friday.
In the meantime, make plans to run by PS1 on Friday for his appearance with Caleb Engstrom. Show starts at 8pm, and these two performers are the only ones featured. That means not only do you get a nice long set from Caleb to see what he’s got cooked up, but you also get plenty of face time from the Sufjan Stevens/Rosie Thomas collaborator Witmer. Carry the Weight represents his first recorded material since 2005, so he should have a lot to play. We’re looking forward to it. You should too. Show’s $5, and awesome. Fans of Bright Eyes, Rocky Votolato, and Page France should take notice.
