We just added another round of acts for the festival including post-rock phenoms El Ten Eleven, indie up-and-comers Gardens & Villa, retro-pop trio The Parlour Suite, and ambient/noise group Kinit Her. Additionally, many local and regional bands have been added to the lineup. Stay tuned: on Thursday we will post the official schedule for the week, finalize lineup for the Literary Program, and unveil details about the Food Program.

We are very pleased to announce the addition of The Antlers to this year’s lineup. Other new bands include: The Poison Control Center, The Daredevil Christopher Wright, Death Ships, Emperors Club, North English, and longtime festival veterans Golden Birds. Brooklyn’s Antlers are purveyors of lush, epic rock that blends thoughtful arrangements, soaring vocals, and lots of spacey ambiance. Their acclaimed debut Hospice came out in 2009 and was followed by the critically lauded sophomore effort Burst Apart in 2011.

We are happy to announce additional artists playing this year’s festival. The latest batch of performers includes Kimya Dawson, Caroline Smith & the Goodnight Sleeps, Lulacruza, and a strong group of local favorite acts (see Lineup). Kimya Dawson is a singer-songwriter, known for her work as a solo performer and as half of the folk duo The Moldy Peaches. Dawson’s songs were featured predominately in the Grammy winning soundtrack to the film Juno. Minneapolis-based Caroline Smith & the Goodnight Sleeps are familiar to the Iowa City music scene. They are touring in support their sophomore album Little Wind. Lulacruza, a folk-electronica act, comes from Argentina and Columbia, adding a distinct South American sound to the festival lineup.

We have just expanded our 2012 lineup with a second announcement of artists. We are happy to welcome modern folk heroes William Elliott Whitmore & Justin Townes Earle, afro-beat legend Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, ambient music mastermind Tim Hecker, comedians Jon Benjamin & Jon Glaser, and hip-hop powerhouse Black Milk to Mission Creek Festival 2012. Other new acts include: Leslie & the Ly’s, Erase Errata, Mike Doughty, Little Scream, Oberhofer, Wet Hair, Grand Tetons, Denison Witmer, Muscle Drum, and Weed Wolf.

Mission Creek Returns!

Hi! Mission Creek Festival returns to Iowa City, Iowa March 27 – April 1, 2012. Venues will include the Englert Theatre, Blue Moose Tap House, Gabes, the Mill, Prairie Lights, Public Space One, the Iowa City Yacht Club, and many more to be announced. All-Access Festival Passes are available for purchase now. Tickets to individual shows will be available beginning Friday, December 16.
