Freakin’ Weekend: 11.15 - 11.17

The University goes on hiatus starting tomorrow, for a week of freedom and relaxation. Unless you work a regular old job, in which case it’s regular old week. Either way, it doesn’t change the fact that everybody’s working for the weekend, and everybody wants a new romance. Everybody’s going off the deep end, everybody wants a second chance. Or something like that.

Thursday
The Lonelyhearts w/Skursula and some writers/ 7:00PM - Danforth Chapel
Readings and music in the Danforth Chapel. Read the full preview below.

Friday
No Shame Theatre / 11pm - Theatre Bulding - $1
It’s no secret that one of the best show’s in the history of television was The Adventures of Pete & Pete, not just because of the smart writing but because of the awesome music celebrity cameo appearance (Michael Stipe, Juliana Hatfield, and Iggy Pop in a recurring part). The character who really carried the show, however, was Artie, the Strongest Man in the World. I bring all this up right now because I’m pretty sure that actor who played Artie, Tobu Huss, was once a student here at Iowa and was all up in the No Shame Theatre thing. It starts late, it costs $1, and they strictly enforce that no piece can be longer than 5 minutes. Of course, 5 minutes here could very well lead to 15 somewhere else.

Saturday
The Pines w/Lonelyhearts and Stephanie Rearick / 9pm - The Mill - $7

You should be all familiar with this here group called the Lonelyhearts by now, but joining them on this bill is Stephanie Rearick, who is coming down from Madison with her classical-art-piano rock. Dig the Myspace. Also, the Pines have Bo Ramsey’s son in the band. So you just know it will sound good.
