Preview: Evan Sult (of Bound Stems) Reads!

Bound StemsOne of our favorite bands in the world is Bound Stems. These quirky, shape-shifting Chicago rockers charmed us with their schizophrenic indie-rock debut, Appreciation Night in 2006. Their live performances are like late-night house parties: the whole band parades around the stage singing to each other as much as they’re singing to us. One of the key foundations of this band is drummer Evan Sult (ex-Harvey Danger). Beyond his cut-throat pounding and vicious time-shifts, Sult is also quite the writer and talker. I caught up with him a couple years ago and we had a great conversation about what it means to be an independent artist. Now Sult returns with a new discussion on the ins and outs of indie-rock drumming. He’ll be reading tomorrow (Saturday) at the University of Iowa in the Adler Journalism Building (AJB) in room E146 at 1030AM sharp. This reading is part of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music Conference. We know 1030AM is a tough time for some of you night people but you’ll have to trust us that this will be a rad reading. Brian Goedde and Aaron Sachs will also be reading about hip-hop and college radio, respectively.
