New Music: A.A. Bondy on Daytrotter

AA BondyDaytrotter is a wonderful black hole. There’s so much music on there you can lose (or gain) a whole afternoon listening to those intimate recording sessions with different bands. But here’s the thing to never forget about Daytrotter: while Sean Moeller and his team might spend a great deal of time recording well established bands like Death Cab for Cutie and Nellie McKay, they also do a bang-up job of showcasing new talent. Remember their old mission statement: “Introducing you to your new favorite band”? Well yeah, they’re still doing it. I recently gave the site the one-over and decided to listen to a band I’d never heard of. This time around it was A.A. Bondy, a folk artist strumming his rickety guitar and singing sad tales. Something about his voice and wise delivery caught me immediately. I somehow find him even more captivating than his current (and appropriate) tour mate, Bon Iver. Head over to Daytrotter and check out his session. And while you’re at it listen to someone else you’ve never heard of… they’ll appreciate it.
