Preview/Contest: MGMT at People’s Court in Des Moines

We know, Des Moines ain’t the easiest trek for a show. But we promise to make it worth your while with some free swag, as we are happily offering some killer vinyl for you to win in celebration of Brooklyn dance-rock duo MGMT and their upcoming appearance at People’s Court in Des Moines on October 1st. MGMT (it’s pronounced man-ij-muhnt, dummy) will be out opening for Beck this fall, but as he takes the 1st off to rest his vocal cords, the lads from the hipster capital of the world will be bringing ass-shaking psychedelia to Iowa. Are you too good for us, Beck? Just kidding. But think of us on the next time through, would you? Anyway, MGMT’s debut album Oracular Spectacular came out late last year digitally and early in 2008 via Sony. It’s a reflection of the times - glossy, spastic dance music with one foot squarely in electronic music and the other in indie rock, displaying reflection of both but mastery of neither. Kevin Barnes’ interest in the band led them to open for Of Montreal multiple times, and given Beck Hanson’s affinity for Of Montreal, presumably led them to this gig opening for indie rock’s greatest loser.

As for the goods, we’re offering a Grand Prize and two smaller prizes. The details:

Grand Prize: One [1] Oracular Spectacular vinyl LP and two [2] limited edition 7-inches, all of which are totally sweet.

The two runners-up will receive copies of the 7-inch. Interested? Excellent. All you need to do is send an email to contest [at] missionfreak.com with the subject line MGMT Contest. The winners will be selected at random. Contest will end at noon CST on Friday, September 26. The winners will be contacted shortly thereafter.

And once again, MGMT will be appearing live in Des Moines on October 1st. Details:
