Abraham Smith is the author of four full-length poetry collections, and his creative work has appeared widely in journals and anthologies such as The American Poetry Review, jubilat, Fence, and Denver Quarterly. Smith has received fellowships from the Fine Arts Work Center, Provincetown, MA, and the Alabama State Council on the Arts. His live readings are engrossing, as he channels the voice of preachers he heard through transistors growing up in Kentucky, to deliver his verbal compulsion and montage of syllables surrounding rural experiences, Hank Williams, Jesus, iIce fishing in the summer, and so much more. He received his MFA in poetry from the University of Alabama in 2004 where he currently resides as a professor, teaching poetry and literature.
