Akwi Nji is the Founder and Executive Director of The Hook, a non-profit organization whose mission is to use art of all forms to create stories that engage, empower, and inspire. She is also the co-producer of the NewBo PoJam, the largest performance poetry and storytelling event in the Creative Corridor.

Akwi spends her time writing, acting, parenting, public speaking, and performing poetry. She has appeared in Theater Cedar Rapids’ One-Act production as well as Macbeth, To Kill a Mockingbird, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the Classics at Brucemore. She spends much of her time (away from her day job) as a hired writer and performer for SPT Theatre Company’s Tales from the Writers’ Room. Keep an eye on Akwi’s calendar and you might catch her performing on various live lit stages in the Midwest.
