Karen Meat and The Players is Des Moines’ favorite pop-punk band led by Arin Eaton. Eaton adopted the name Karen Meat when she relocated from Nashville to Des Moines, and has been described as the “landlocked American cousin to ascendant Australian singer/songwriter Courtney Barnett.” Karen Meat’s latest project “Karen Meat and The Computer” was released in early 2015, and features songs written by Patrick Tape Fleming of Gloom Balloon and Poison Control Center. The album’s sound is unapologetic, gritty, unrelentingly sweet, and somehow manages to cover everything from dysfunctional relationships and negative body image issues to pizza and beer in just five songs.
