A native of Cedar Rapids, IA, Lovar Davis Kidd is an award-winning choreographer, performance artist, and instructor.

L.D. pursued a BFA in dance at the University of Iowa from 1998-2002, and was a 3 year member of the University of Iowa cheerleading squad, serving as captain his 3rd year. During college L.D. worked for the Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA), and coached and choreographed for cheer & dance teams all over the United States.

In the winter of 2002 he landed a job as a dancer aboard the M/S Fantasy, one of Carnival Cruise Lines distinguished ships. From 2003-2006 he found his home in Los Angeles, CA where he was signed with MSA Dance Agency, and performed as a feature dancer in Aladdin “A Musical Spectacular” at the Disney California Adventure Park. During that time he was also a core member of Word In Motion Dance Company under the artistic direction of Tymme and Aury Reitz, as well as the cheerleading coach at Costa Mesa High School.

In 2007 Kidd founded MOvMNT Dance Company (MDC), a contemporary & hip-hop dance company, in Cedar Rapids, IA. MDC has had the privilege of providing hundreds of students with affordable dance classes and performance opportunities over the past 8 years.

L.D. has performed nationally, and internationally, most recently in the 2011-2012 National tour of the tony award-winning musical In The Heights. Before touring with In The Heights, he was a core member of EDGEWORKS Dance Theater, an all male modern, predominantly African-American dance company based out of Washington DC under the artistic direction of Helanius J. Wilkins and portrayed the role of Donkey in Theatre Cedar Rapids’ 2014 production of Shrek the Musical.

He is husband to the beautiful Jennifer Kidd, father to 15 month-old Myles Davis Kidd and lover of his two Shiba Inu’s Cora & Koda.

An activist in the arts community, L.D. has a desire to see Iowa become a Hub of great artists and great art and is thrilled at any opportunity to share his passion for spoken word.
