Do you live under a rock? Is that your style? Do you crave the cold and the darkness? Have you not heard of the best website in the Midwest, Daytrotter? You shock me man, you shock me. OK, I’ll calm down a bit… but here’s the deal if you’re not already into Daytrotter, here’s your chance to get hip with the times. In addition to providing free songs from great bands on a near-daily basis, the Rock Island-based company is getting their feet wet in the show-promoting business. Last year, they sponsored the great big Tilly & the Wall show at the Mill during Mission Creek ‘07 (ed note: those t-shirts were so hot!), and this summer they put on some successful shows featuring Page France and David Vandervelde. Tomorrow night, you can swing down to Huckleberry’s Pizza in downtown Rock Island for some tunes by Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin. SSLYBY released their debut LP in 2006 via Polyvinyl Records to wide acclaim, but they’ve since gone underground to work on a new record. Their highly anticipated sophomore disc will hit shelves on April 8 once again via Polyvinyl, but you can preview some of the new material this Tuesday night. Hesitant about heading otu to Rock Island on a weeknight? The Daytrotter crew assures me that the show will be out by 9:30, as that’s when Huckleberry’s closes.
You can download “Oregon Girl,” from 2006’s Broom below. If you’d like a taste of the new record, Stereogum is hosting the first track, “Glue Girls” here.
The show begins at 7:00pm and only runs you a measly 5 bucks. Local Freak-fave Caleb Engstrom opens.
Grab the songs from their 2006 Daytrotter session right here.
