How about a taste of that good ole’ indie-folk? We’ve teamed up with our friends over at SCOPE to bring in Bon Iver for this year’s festival. Bon Iver (via Jagjaguwar: pronounced “bohn eevair”; French for “good winter” and spelled wrong on purpose) is the stage moniker for Justin Vernon, a folk artist with a woodsy sound from the far reaches of Wisconsin’s forest. In 2007 he self-released For Emma, Forever Ago to high-praise from Pitchfork. Since then, Jagjaguwar picked up Bon Iver and re-released For Emma, Forever Ago. Although he is currently on tour with larger than life future-rockers Black Mountain, Bon Iver’s set at Mission Creek will mark the debut of a new, intimate venue in the IMU called the Black Box. Bring your sweaters, various other DIY knits, and blankets and we’ll curl up on the floor together to listen to Vernon’s heartwarming tunes.

Are you kidding me? Amazing. Well that saves me the trip to Missouri. Winteriest Album of the Year. And by winteriest, I mean taylor-effing-made for Iowa City.
THIS IS GOING TO BE GREAT I’M SO EXCITED TO SEE HIM!
This is amazing! I can’t believe this will be the first show in the Black Box. Can’t wait!!!
Indeed, we too are super excited to be welcoming Bon Iver for his first Mission Creek performance, which also happens to be the inaugural performance at the Black Box. Don’t forget that Dan Deacon will be playing the Pic later this night, so clear your agendas! It’s going to be a big day.
There’s a great interview with Justin Vernon at
sri.uwec.edu. It’s nice and long and available for download for your listening pleasure.
