New Music: Headlights - Skeleton Man (Evangelicals cover)

Not really sure how they came into it, but your friendly neighborhood indie tastemakers over at Pitchfork stumbled (and by stumbled I mean was sent the track by some savvy promotional team) upon a killer cover by Headlights, who will take the Picador by storm in one month as part of this year’s Mission Creek Festival. They’re presently in the midst of an epic tour alongside Evangelicals in support of both bands’ recently released albums. Together, they’ll be alternately “racing and stopping“- pun intended — ’til the whole getdown wraps up in early April, but all you really need to know is April 3. That’s the date they “descend” — there’s another one — on Iowa City alongside Neva Dinova. I’m just making myself sick with wit.

Anyway, to show that they’re really getting along on tour, Headlights have covered “Skeleton Man,” from The Evening Descends. They strip it down just a little bit, but not tooo much, and add some lovely female vocals as is their style. I’d love to see the tour cover song become an institution — remember when Malkmus toured with Radiohead? That would’ve been sick - and maybe next for these groups will be a full-on collaborative album…? We can all dream.

Not only is the cover great, but the picture you used in this post of the group is hilarious.
