Minor Robberies

Holy McSweeeney’s Party! Deb Olin Unferth, author of the short-short stories collection Minor Robberies and the brand new novel Vacation, rolls into Iowa City Thursday afternoon to give a reading. Unferth’s experimental and humorous fiction is a fresh descent into the well-worn topics of navigating failing relationships and looking for meaning in life. The fabulist nature of her prose recalls the charm of Calvino though she’s shaped her voice for a distinctively 21st Century world. In less grand terms, Unferth writes funny, gripping, and even magical stories. Catch her in the intimate confines of the Gerber Lounge on the third floor of the University’s English-Philosophy building. The reading begins at 530PM and a Q&A will follow.
