Freakin’ (sneak) Peek: Liberty Leg

I know we already gave you the head’s up on this one yesterday, but we’ve got a bit more to say on Liberty Leg.  Actually, it’s more along the lines of letting the band speak for itself.  You see, we got us a copy of the band’s EP, Shaking, which is what all the celebrating is about at the Picador tonight.  The Iowa City trio spent some time in Luke Tweedy’s Flat Black Studios and Shaking is a taste of the fruits of their labor.

Liberty Leg is one of the finest purveyors of gut-bucket blooze-rawk in Iowa City.  Think if The White Stripes took downers and played backing band for a Leonard Cohen blues project and you’re getting close to getting an idea of what these guys are about.  Lead singer Ethan Richeson has a voice that could substitute for a fog horn in a pinch and apparently a hole mess of girl troubles and rusty car parts for lyrical inspiration.  Check out gravity in his voice on that mp3 below, and if it’s your thang, you best get thee to The Picador this eve.
