From auspicious beginnings as members of various legendary Iowa City bands, Dustin Kelly (Magic Cave, Rite Near the Beach Boiii, Betsy Smythe, Lawyer Films, LLC), Laura Kelly (That’s Hip, Lady Bulldogs, Rex Sharqi, Pretty Ugly, Family Van), and Joe Derderian (SomeGirls, Thee Almighty Handclaps!, The Boxknifes, Autodramatics) formed the near-mythic Burning Hands.
A +3 roll of the dice was all it took to deftly combine musical powers and recognize the collective dream of psychedelic drone. Casting spells with the simplicity of guitar, bass, drums, drones, and samples, Burning Hands have simultaneously created and/or nicked sounds from the most mystical, energetic, and healing moments of rock ‘n’ roll past, present, and future.
By turns abrasive, chaotic, soothing, cathartic, metallic, and relentless, subversive drones and repetition blur the lines of dissonance, elegance, space, and beauty, simultaneously condensing and expanding multiple aural textures. For Burning Hands, each moment is as important as the last; every note rings true and heartfelt, serving the song.
Burning Hands are soon to self-release their completed-but-as-yet-untitled full-length album.
