Preview: Will Whitmore, The Donkeys, others in Rock Island

Saturday night, of course, we’ve already pointed you toward the show at the Yacht Club, but if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, we’d like to invite you to head for the Mississippi and check out William Elliott Whitmore performing at Rock Island Brewing Co. in anticipation of Animals in the Dark, his forthcoming Anti- debut. The record officially hits stores on February 17th, and he’s got two shows scheduled at the Picador the following weekend to celebrate, but we love us some Whitmore so we’re more than willing to truck out to Rock Island to hear him trot out the new material (weather permitting - looks like temps will get above zero though, so it should be a go). The supporting cast for this show is great, too: sun-drenched Dead Oceans rockers The Donkeys provide the main support, while you also get Minneapolis indie pop outfit Pictures of Then as well as locally legendary Moline band Meth & Goats. M&G are Mission Creek vets but we weren’t really sure they existed anymore, so the chance to catch them out (and lure them to our city) is crucial. And while math rock might make the least sense on this bill, fuck it, we’ll take it! Oh, and one last thing: to top it off, our Daytrotter peeps are making this all happen. We love you guys. And since last time we talked about Will you could only stream the track, we’re offering “Old Devils” up for download below. Enjoy!
